Orange Krush Foundation, raises almost $3 million to date. Founding members recognized at Illini Game.

Sweet • February 5, 2017
Yesterday, we were recognized at the Illini game as the founding members of the Orange Krush Foundation Board. The Foundation was the brain child of Dr. Michael Raycraft . It’s crazy to think that I was a part of the foundation in its infancy,… operated out of a small cubicle, overseen by one staff member, Michael, and a few college kids, Chris Tuttle , Chip Jorstad , Alex Marks, and myself, has to date raised close to $3 million dollars. Amazing!!!
So cool to be able to bring one of my boys with me on the court.

Having lunch with ‘the crew’ and reminiscing of the good ole days, sharing stories providing lots of laughter… picking back up right where we left off was so good for my soul.

We got a tour of the new State Farm Center which blew me away. I had no idea how extensive the renovations beyond the arena area were. The Orange Krush are now treated like royalty with pre-game events held at Memorial Stadium and their very own club at the State Farm Center complete with massive TV’s, private bathrooms and their own concession stand. It’s a wee bit different than our Orange Krush pre-game parties in the 90’s at Kams Champaign . ha!
Yeah, we weren’t cool enough for our own club back in my day.

I loved being able to share this opportunity with my middle boy. His dream is to be able to put his passion for photography and philanthropy (such as mission trips and raising money for people in other countries to have clean water) together as he gets older.

He couldn’t believe I hadn’t ever told him about something that I helped get off the ground that has raised so much money. He actually said, “You started a foundation that has raised millions and you didn’t think this was important enough to share with your kids!?” He was truly baffled that I never told them.  My boy was so proud of me. He was amazed at how big the foundation has become and loved knowing his mom was a part of it on day one all those years ago. It was fun to share a piece of my ‘past’ (pre-kids) with him and see his excitement for it all.
John and I court side before we were recognized on court during a timeout.

I’m hopeful that hearing the stories first hand about a few people in a little cubicle who had a great idea and a passion to see it through amidst challenges will inspire him. We persevered and laid the groundwork for Michael’s vision that continues to make an impact 20 years later.

You don’t have to be someone ‘important’ to make a difference. If his mom can do it, so can he.🙂Let it be an encouragement to him as he continues his journey in life to help others with the gifts God has given him.
Some of the swanky new spaces in State Farm Center.
This is a really cool wall. Wish I would have taken a pic of all of it (probably at least 3 times this). Every person on this wall attended the University of Illinois. U of I was a great foundation for many who have went on to be successful in sports and business.

I fell for it. I engaged. Over the years, I’ve learned more about narcissism and how to best handle interacting with them. In my previous post, I talked about the bullying behavior and not owning their thoughts as my own. However, recently, I made the mistake of engaging with the narcissist. I fell into the... The post Disengage | Surviving interaction with a narcissist first appeared on Sweet Lemonade Life.

I’ve been pretty quiet around here lately. But today, was one of those victorious moments and I had to share in case anyone else is/has struggled with mental abuse. A few years ago, I believed every single negative thing someone close to me said. I believed I was worthless, incompetent, stupid, never good enough, never healthy enough,... “I have a million people to do something with. But I don’t have anybody to do nothing with. That’s what I miss most.” Recently, I found a show on Netflix I’ve been binge watching and am nearing the end of season 3. It’s called Switched at Birth. Toby, a young man who got married... Have you heard about the new Netflix series called 13 Reasons Why?  It’s about a girl who was bullied at school and ultimately ended her life by slitting her wrists. The past few years have provided me with lots of opportunities to learn, grow and move on to a better life. After my divorce became official about 18 months ago, I finally had the energy and mental space to focus on other things. Just one year ago, after returning from a life changing workshop in... Is anyone else stubborn? Or is it just me? ha! After my third child was born, things chemically changed in me. It didn’t help that I had a husband that more often than not left for work before the kids woke up and came home after they went to bed, or if he was home...
